Whenever we write a travel piece about Wroclaw, we face a dilemma. In two days, or even in a week, it is simply impossible to tick off all the attractions this city has to offer.
So forgive us that our suggestion here is a very subjective selection (the so-called "must-sees"), which each of you can supplement with other points of interest according to your own taste and interests. The order of sightseeing, too, is merely a suggestion, which you can of course modify in any way you like. And where is the best place to stay when travelling to Wroclaw? A tried and tested option is the apartments in Sky Tower with their beautiful views.
Wroclaw – what is worth seeing on day one
The Market Square and the historic Old Town
When exploring beautiful cities, it is always worth starting with what lies on the Market Square and in its immediate vicinity. Wroclaw's Market Square is among the largest and loveliest in Poland. Besides the historic townhouses that surround it, note among other things that it has no fewer than two town halls. Not far from here you will find the great, almost monumental Polish Catholic Cathedral of St Mary Magdalene. Between the two towers of this church runs a footbridge (the so-called Witches' Bridge). It offers a magnificent view over the whole area.
The National Museum and the Racławice Panorama
This is a suggestion for all lovers of magnificent works of art. In the National Museum you will find thousands of sculptures, paintings, masterpieces of applied and sacred art, and many other splendours, including from countries as distant as Japan and China. The Racławice Panorama is the largest painting ever created by Polish artists. It simply has to be seen.
The Market Hall
Wroclaw's Market Hall is not only a place for good shopping, especially fresh fruit and vegetables, but also one of the city's best-known and most recognisable landmarks.
Sky Tower
One of the city's newest and, quite literally, largest attractions. A building visible from afar, standing over two hundred metres tall. It is a great shopping, service and entertainment centre. You can have something to eat in one of its many restaurants, or take the lift up to the viewpoint. Unforgettable views and experiences.
Wroclaw tourist attractions for day two
A cruise on the Oder
Along the Oder, numerous small boats await, ready to take you on a trip to see what the city looks like from the water. An interesting and romantic option, especially for couples in love.
The Botanical Garden, the Japanese Garden and many other green spaces
Like every larger city, Wroclaw has quite a number of varied parks and gardens. Deserving special mention are the fascinating Botanical Garden and the Japanese Garden, where you can see interesting exotic plants arranged in remarkable compositions. A good suggestion for anyone who has a garden of their own and might like to borrow an idea or two to apply at home.
Wroclaw's multimedia fountain
Fountains are gaining ever greater popularity in various cities – not just water flowing from a beautiful sculpture, but, thanks to the many different nozzles used, an effect as if columns of water were dancing to the rhythm of music coming from the speakers. An additional beautiful element is the illumination of everything in different colours, which makes for a remarkable aesthetic experience. The fountain stands right next to Wroclaw's famous Centennial Hall.
What can you see in Wroclaw with the family?
If you have children, be sure to take them on a trip to the zoological garden. All little ones love animals, and Wroclaw's zoo is among the best and best-known in Poland. The children will certainly also enjoy "collecting" the dwarfs. In some bookshops around the city you can buy a map marking all of Wroclaw's dwarfs. And since they are usually found near the most interesting and best-known landmarks, you will tick off plenty of other attractions along the way.
